Doosan Mobility Innovation Joins 'UAM Team Korea'... Developing Large Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Doosan Mobility Innovation (hereinafter DMI) announced on the 24th that it participated in the launch ceremony of the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) public-private consultative body 'UAM Team Korea,' hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. This consultative body, aimed at realizing urban air mobility and establishing an industrial ecosystem, includes over 40 institutions and companies, including DMI.
UAM is an eco-friendly, low-noise three-dimensional transportation mode. The government announced the 'K-UAM (Korean Urban Air Mobility) Roadmap' on the 4th, which plans to launch commercial UAM services by 2025.
DMI plans to promote detailed tasks of the roadmap and engage in multifaceted collaboration with participating entities. In particular, it will develop hydrogen fuel cell technology for logistics and cargo capable of carrying loads of 5 to 15 kg, as well as large hydrogen fuel cell technology capable of carrying heavy loads of 100 to 200 kg and enabling mid-to-long-distance flights (100 to 400 km).
Lee Doosoon, CEO of DMI, said, "DMI's hydrogen fuel cell technology can be applied to various applications beyond drones," adding, "Based on our experience mass-producing industrial hydrogen drones and hydrogen fuel cell packs, we will do our best to develop technologies and products applicable to UAM and play a leading role in popularizing UAM."
Last November, DMI succeeded in delivering emergency medical supplies over a 70 km distance between islands through drone flights, organized by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In February, it introduced the hydrogen drone 'DS30,' capable of flying for more than two hours, to the African continent at the Rwanda Africa Drone Forum.
