Assemblyman Kim In-ho elected as the 10th Seoul Metropolitan Council's second half chairman on the 23rd at 4 PM, defeating Assemblyman Choi Woong-sik; Vice-chair candidates Kim Kwang-soo and Kim Ki-duk elected; Operations Committee Chair Kim Jung-tae and Floor Leader Cho Sang-ho elected
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Kim In-ho, a Seoul Metropolitan Council member (Democratic Party of Korea, Dongdaemun 3), has been elected as the candidate for the 10th Seoul Metropolitan Council Chairperson, starting from July.
The Seoul Metropolitan Council Democratic Party Election Management Committee (Chairman Kim Saeng-hwan, Nowon 4) held a vote from 4 p.m. on the 23rd to select the candidate for the Chairperson of the second half of the 10th Seoul Metropolitan Council. Kim In-ho received 58 votes, Choi Woong-sik received 43 votes, and there was 1 invalid vote, resulting in Kim In-ho’s election.
Candidate Kim previously served as the Chair and Vice Chair of the Seoul Metropolitan Council’s Finance and Economy Committee.
Additionally, the Vice Chair candidates elected were Councilors Kim Ki-duk (Mapo 4) and Kim Kwang-soo (Dobong 2).
Representative Councilor Jo Sang-ho (Seodaemun 4) and the candidate for Chair of the Steering Committee, Councilor Kim Jeong-tae (Yeongdeungpo 2), were also elected.
The Chairperson and Vice Chair candidates decided on this day will be officially confirmed at the Seoul Metropolitan Council plenary session held on the 25th.
Kim In-ho, candidate for Chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, had previously run for the Chairperson position in the first half of the 10th Council but was defeated; however, he challenged again this time and was elected as the Chairperson candidate.
Initially, there was speculation that Choi Woong-sik was the frontrunner for the Seoul Metropolitan Council Chairperson, but the unexpected result was Kim In-ho’s victory.
This was partly due to concerns that if Councilor Kim Jeong-tae from Yeongdeungpo District was appointed as Chair of the Steering Committee and Councilor Choi Woong-sik also became Chairperson candidate, it might lead to "monopolization of Seoul Metropolitan Council seats by representatives from Yeongdeungpo District."
Election Management Committee Chairman Kim Saeng-hwan stated, “The second half of the 10th Council is especially important as it begins alongside the 21st National Assembly, facing many urgent tasks such as local decentralization and overcoming the COVID-19 crisis. I would like to express my gratitude to all candidates who completed a fair election with excellent policies and pledges during this critical time.”
