Hyosung Chemical's 'Polyketone', Targeting the Construction Market as an Eco-Friendly Material
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hyosung Chemical's eco-friendly engineering plastic material, Polyketone, is targeting the construction market with its application in electric meters following last year's use in water meters.
Hyosung Chemical announced on the 22nd that it has launched electric meters using Polyketone for the first time as the material.
Polyketone is an eco-friendly, carbon-reducing polymer material made using carbon monoxide (CO), an air pollutant, as a raw material. Hyosung Chemical successfully developed it for the first time in the world in 2013. It has superior physical properties such as impact resistance, chemical resistance, and abrasion resistance compared to conventional industrial materials, making it applicable in various fields.
The product, developed in collaboration with the measuring instrument manufacturer 'Greenflow,' has excellent flame retardancy compared to existing materials, making it resistant to fire, and its strength is more than twice as high to withstand external impacts, resulting in outstanding durability. Replacing 10,000 electric meters with Polyketone material can reduce approximately 1,500 kg of carbon monoxide, a major cause of air pollution. Hyosung Chemical received eco-friendly green technology certification from the Ministry of Environment in August 2016, recognizing Polyketone's environmental benefits.
In particular, Hyosung Chemical is also supporting market development for 'Greenflow,' a small and medium-sized customer company that co-developed this product. Starting in November, Polyketone electric meters will be supplied to major construction sites where Hyosung Heavy Industries is the contractor. They also plan to actively support market development targeting multiple construction companies in the future.
