Gwangju City Selected as Best Institution in Environmental Management Performance Evaluation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 22nd that it was selected as the best institution in the "2019 Local Government Environmental Management Performance Evaluation" conducted by the Ministry of Environment targeting local governments nationwide.
In this evaluation, Gwangju received high marks for improving inspection efficiency by conducting on-site guidance inspections and joint inspections of emission businesses alternately according to the integrated inspection plan.
In particular, Gwangju's violation rate was 23.4%, ranking third nationwide after Jeju and Chungnam, and its performance in environmental monitoring public official education and training, as well as the operation of the environmental monitoring network, was found to be superior compared to other local governments.
Also, all five autonomous districts were evaluated in the top group, and among them, Gwangju City, Seo-gu, and Gwangsan-gu were selected as excellent institutions, indicating that the management of emission business sites in Gwangju is being conducted exemplary.
Institutions selected as excellent local governments will be awarded government commendations, and through the "Emission Business Environmental Management Competition" to be held in September, environmental management and best practices of emission businesses will be shared.
Song Yong-su, head of the Environmental Policy Division of the city, said, "We will not be satisfied with this evaluation and will continue to do our best in managing emission business sites," adding, "Considering the recent difficulties in on-site inspections due to COVID-19, we plan to also implement non-face-to-face on-site inspection methods using the Internet of Things monitoring system."
