New Route 8003 Established in Pyeongchang-dong, Seoul... Debut of 'Small to Medium Electric City Bus'
When Urban Demonstrations Occur, Bus No. 8002 Deployed Between Sangmyung University and Gyeongbokgung Intersection
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Seoul City announced on the 22nd that it will introduce and operate bus number 8003 starting from the 25th to improve bus intervals in the Pyeongchang-dong area, a representative public transportation blind spot, expand routes, and address residents' inconveniences related to noise and exhaust.
Considering the road and regional characteristics of Pyeongchang-dong, which has many narrow alley-like slopes, the city plans to operate two small to medium-sized electric city buses for route 8003 to enhance residents' mobility convenience. The bus intervals will also be shortened to a minimum of 13 minutes.
In particular, by introducing and operating small to medium-sized electric buses, which have the advantages of low noise and eco-friendliness, it is expected that daily life inconveniences such as noise and exhaust problems caused by passing vehicles in the Pyeongchang-dong area will be improved.
The establishment of bus number 8003 was decided after proactively reviewing and reflecting the transportation improvement demands of Pyeongchang-dong residents during the process of addressing inconveniences of residents in the Jongno-gu area related to the Gwanghwamun Plaza redevelopment project.
The city also plans to operate bus number 8002 (Sangmyung University~Gyeongbokgung Intersection) only on weekends and during road closures to secure the mobility rights of residents in Pyeongchang-dong and Hongji-dong areas, who have had difficulties entering the city center as most city buses turn around near Jahamun Tunnel when gatherings occur near Gwanghwamun Plaza.
Bus number 8002 will be operated by separating one of the two vehicles used for bus number 8003, and the city and police have completed consultations to ensure that the route can enter the city center without interruption under any circumstances such as gatherings or road closures, allowing citizens to connect and use other public transportation such as subways and city buses.
Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon said, "I hope that the introduction and operation of the eco-friendly small to medium-sized electric city bus, the first of its kind in Seoul, will alleviate the inconveniences of citizens around Gwanghwamun Plaza," adding, "Seoul City will continue to expand eco-friendly transportation policies based on the semi-public city bus system and strive to provide stable and sustainable public transportation services."
