Seodaemun-gu Holds 'Walking Alone Following the Market' Challenge
Non-Face-to-Face Campaign Promoted to Enhance Resident Health Amid COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) is gaining attention for continuously promoting non-face-to-face campaigns to improve residents' health.
Last month, the district operated the nation’s first “Walking Alone Along the Hongjecheon Smart Dulle-gil” campaign for 14 days, with 1,083 participants joining the challenge.
This time, the area has been expanded, and from the 25th of this month to July 15th, Seodaemun-gu will run the “Walking Alone Along the Market (市場)” challenge together with Mapo-gu and Eunpyeong-gu.
The first Seodaemun course (6.5km) runs from Hongje Station to the Bukhansan foothill trail observatory, Pobangteo Market, Hongjecheon, and continues to Inwang Market.
The second Mapo course (6.5km) goes from Dongnimmun Station to Ansan foothill trail, Ahyeon-dong mural alley, and Gongdeok Market, while the third Eunpyeong course (7.0km) connects Bulgwang Station, Eunpyeong Dulle-gil, Baekryeonsan observatory, and Daerim Market.
The challenge operation periods are ▲1st course from June 25 to July 1 ▲2nd course from July 2 to 8 ▲3rd course from July 9 to 15.
Completing each course, including short breaks, takes about 3 hours.
Those wishing to participate can run the “WalkOn” application on their smartphones (Challenge → Seobuk 3-gu Union Walking Alone → Join) and walk the designated course.
Walking at least 90% of each course achieves the goal, and the first 300 participants per session receive a souvenir exchange coupon (Course 1 - sports socks, Course 2 - sports water bottle, Course 3 - sports arm sleeves).
Anyone can participate in each course regardless of whether they are Seoul citizens, and those who complete the challenge can receive the souvenir corresponding to their completed course at any of the three district health centers.
Additionally, Seodaemun-gu will hold a “Summer Online Stamp Tour” from July 1 to August 31.
Passing designated spots within Ansan, Hongjecheon, and Bukhansan smart dulle-gil trails in the area will earn a stamp on the “WalkOn” app. Collecting all 10 stamps grants a free admission ticket to the Seodaemun Natural History Museum, and collecting 5 stamps grants a free admission ticket to the Seodaemun Prison History Hall.
Seodaemun-gu has been focusing on the “Walking Mileage Project,” including establishing the nation’s first “Smart Dulle-gil” in 2017, and as a result, received the Minister of Health and Welfare’s Award in the “Physical Activity Project” category for two consecutive years, last year and this year.
