Gwangju City Announces Call for Papers for 'International Human Rights Thesis' at World Human Rights Cities Forum
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 19th that it will hold a call for international human rights papers to be presented at the World Human Rights Cities Forum in October.
Since the 2016 World Human Rights Cities Forum, Gwangju has been holding a call for human rights papers to broaden the horizon of research on human rights.
This year, the event is jointly organized by the Gwangju International Exchange Center, the Raoul Wallenberg Institute in Sweden, a world-renowned human rights research institution, and the Department of English Language and Literature at Chonnam National University.
The papers should be written under the theme of "Human Rights Cities and Sustainable Development," covering a total of eight subtopics: ▲ historical development of human rights cities ▲ theoretical development of the concept of human rights cities and the role of local levels in realizing human rights ▲ historical heritage of human rights cities ▲ diversity of human rights cities ▲ environmental protection of human rights cities ▲ role of local governments ▲ human rights cities and new technologies ▲ response of human rights cities to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A 500-word English abstract of the paper should be submitted to the World Human Rights Cities Forum Secretariat by July 10.
After the review and completion of the full manuscript, the paper will be presented at the human rights paper session of the World Human Rights Cities Forum on October 8.
Selected papers will be published on the official websites of the World Human Rights Cities Forum and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, and there is no separate prize money. For more detailed information regarding the call for papers, please check the forum website.

Yoon Mok-hyun, Director of the Democracy, Human Rights, and Peace Bureau of the city, said, "Last year’s call for human rights papers was successfully held with participation from 31 teams of overseas human rights activists and researchers from 14 countries," adding, "It would be great if human rights experts and university students in the Gwangju area actively participate and use this opportunity to enhance their international human rights capabilities."
