Myungseong TNS Selected for Consecutive National Projects... Development of Simultaneous Biaxial Stretching Equipment for Secondary Battery Separators
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Myeongseong TNS has once again been selected for a national project related to secondary battery separator manufacturing equipment, following its recent development of large-area separator manufacturing equipment.
On the 17th, Myeongseong TNS announced that it signed a national project agreement with the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT), under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, for the development and demonstration of simultaneous biaxial stretching equipment for separators.
The development period is until December 31, 2022, and Myeongseong TNS will receive about 2.9 billion KRW of the 4.3 billion KRW R&D budget from the government. Myeongseong TNS is a specialized company in secondary battery manufacturing equipment and is the only domestic manufacturer of separator pre-process equipment. The separator is a core material that isolates the anode and cathode within the secondary battery to prevent electrical short circuits and allows ions to move between the two electrodes.
The equipment Myeongseong TNS aims to develop is a stretching device that pulls the separator film in both the longitudinal and transverse directions. This enables uniform thickness and pore shape and distribution of the film, improving the efficiency and stability of the separator.

A company official stated, “The goal of this national project is to localize the simultaneous biaxial stretching equipment,” adding, “We plan to develop equipment that can simultaneously reduce energy consumption in the separator pre-process and is more environmentally friendly.”
