Jeonbuk Namwon-si, Leaping Forward as the City of Hanbok.
Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism 2020 Hanbok Culture Revitalization Support Project Contest Selection
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Namwon City has prepared an opportunity to leap forward as a Han-style central city and a city of Hanbok.
According to Namwon City on the 16th, Namwon City was finally selected in the ‘2020 Hanbok Culture Revitalization Support Project’ contest, jointly held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Craft & Design Foundation, and Hanbok Promotion Center. The city will receive a total project budget of 400 million KRW (200 million KRW from the national government and 200 million KRW from local government) and will promote Hanbok-related content projects from September to October.
In particular, the city achieved the remarkable feat of being the only one among seven cities and counties to be selected in both categories by applying for the Hanbok Culture Week Project and the Hanbok Culture Regional Hub Project in this contest.
The areas supported by the city are two types: the ‘Hanbok Culture Week Project,’ which the Hanbok Promotion Center has promoted every October during Hanbok Week, and the new sustainable ‘Hanbok Culture Regional Hub Project’ that strengthens connections with the region.
In this contest, the city proposed various Hanbok revitalization programs under the theme ‘Gwanghanjeongin’ (廣寒情人).
‘Gwanghanjeongin’ expresses people who love Hanbok visiting Gwanghallu, and the city plans to showcase diverse Hanbok utilization programs that reflect the unique characteristics of ‘Namwon,’ the number one place for Jirisan’s cultural elegance, within the 100,000㎡ old downtown area densely packed with traditional Hanok such as Gwanghallu Garden and Namwon Yechon.
As part of this, from September to October during Hanbok Culture Week, the city plans to hold a high-class cultural elegance concept fashion show and exhibition centered on Yeruwon, the Hanbok culture hub, to promote the excellence and beauty of Hanbok.
Also, at the Namwon Yechon Cultural Yard, about ten programs including various Hanbok experience programs that citizens and tourists can participate in will be promoted.
In particular, following the selection in this contest project, the city plans to actively link with ‘Yeruwon,’ the Hanbok specialized content center.
Currently, the city is constructing Yeruwon, a Hanbok specialized content hall with a total floor area of 827.07㎡ on a 3,165㎡ site within Namwon Yechon, to introduce Han-style resources step by step.
