[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] On the 15th, as 173 pro-government lawmakers from the Democratic Party of Korea, the Justice Party, and the Open Democratic Party planned to propose the 'Declaration of the End of the Korean War Resolution,' independent lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo criticized, saying, "They might as well declare surrender."
On the same day, Hong posted on his Facebook, "The declaration of the end of the war is premised on nuclear disarmament, but the ruling party lawmakers are advocating for the declaration while leaving North Korea's nuclear weapons intact," he said.
He continued, "Watching today's parliamentary oppression where even the composition of the National Assembly is decided at their will, I feel truly sorry for the citizens and opposition parties who still have hope," adding, "The future of the country is really bleak."
He wrote, "For the denuclearization of North Korea, two years ago in April, there was a South-North summit at Panmunjom, and in June, a North Korea-U.S. summit in Singapore," and "The North Korea-U.S. summit held a day before the local elections guaranteed the South-North summit and attracted worldwide attention as the first-ever North Korea-U.S. summit in history."
He added, "I called these two summits 'disguised peace talks,' asserting that North Korea would never denuclearize, but the public and media labeled me a provocateur, preventing me even from campaigning in the local elections."
Hong questioned, "Two years later, has North Korea's nuclear program been dismantled? Has peace truly come to the Korean Peninsula?" He asked, "We dismantled frontline units, blew up guard posts along the Demilitarized Zone, removed landmines, and built roads, but what is North Korea doing now?"

He further stated, "Rather, we were deceived by North Korea, legitimizing it as a normal state and recognizing it as a nuclear-armed country through these disguised peace talks," and "I warned that this would be the most failed diplomatic event in world history since the Munich Agreement between Hitler and Chamberlain in September 1938, but my correct judgment was dismissed as reckless talk and slander, and now the pro-North regime under Moon Jae-in and the immature Trump are both in trouble."
