Kim Tae-nyeon "Will Take Action on Parliamentary Organization Tomorrow... Chairman Park, Please Make a Decision"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 14th regarding the organization of the National Assembly, "I will take action tomorrow (the 15th) to organize the Assembly."
At a press briefing held at the National Assembly, Floor Leader Kim said, "The United Future Party rejected the agreement in which the Democratic Party made significant concessions and chose obstruction and political strife."
He emphasized, "It is now time to fulfill the authority and responsibility granted to the Democratic Party as the majority party," adding, "The National Assembly's duties to review the third supplementary budget and strengthen quarantine measures are urgent, and we do not have the luxury to waste time on the organization issue."
Addressing National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seok, he said, "The people have waited long enough, and the procedures have been observed sufficiently," and requested, "I ask for a bold decision to overcome the national crisis."
Regarding the United Future Party's rejection of the tentative agreement in which the ruling party would take the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and the United Future Party would take the Budget and Accounts Committee, he said, "Since the hard-won agreement was rejected, we are seriously considering whether that agreement is still valid." He also stated about the possibility of voting on all 18 standing committee chairpersons, "At this point, all possibilities are open."
In response to the claim that since the 16th National Assembly the chairperson of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee has mostly been from the opposition party, Floor Leader Kim said, "That was an agreement reflecting the realistic conditions of seat distribution. Currently, the number of seats allows the Democratic Party to organize the Assembly alone and operate the National Assembly normally afterward, so committee assignments should be based on that."
Regarding the United Future Party's proposed "division of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee" (Legislation Committee and Judiciary Committee), he dismissed it, saying, "It is still an opinion to grant the Legislation Committee the authority for systematic and detailed review, so the overreach of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee will continue, making it difficult to accept."
