Fire at Pohang Steelworks Extinguished... No Casualties Reported (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] At around 12:30 PM on the 13th, a fire broke out at the Sodunsan Processing Plant within POSCO Pohang Steelworks in Dongchon-dong, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongbuk, and the fire was extinguished by around 2:20 PM. It has been confirmed that there were no casualties.
On that day, when black smoke rose from the factory, fire reports continued from nearby residential areas. The fire authorities issued a Level 1 response and mobilized about 20 vehicles including fire trucks, rescue, and ambulance vehicles to extinguish the fire.
POSCO stated that the workers on site evacuated urgently and that there have been no casualties so far.
The fire spread slowly, and it is known that there was no abnormality in tanks containing hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid.
The Sodunsan Processing Plant is a stainless steel product manufacturing process facility.

A POSCO official said, "A fire occurred in some production equipment lines, and we are currently investigating the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage."
