14 Domestic Pharmaceutical Companies Join MIT Industry-Academia Collaboration
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Fourteen domestic pharmaceutical companies are participating in an industry-academia collaboration program operated by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States.
The Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association announced on the 12th that 14 domestic pharmaceutical companies have joined MIT's industry-academia collaboration program, the MIT ILP (MIT Industrial Liaison Program), as the world's first consortium membership.
MIT ILP is an industry-academia collaboration program that supports the mutual linkage between MIT's academic research achievements and the industry in various fields such as healthcare and information and communication technology. More than 260 companies worldwide have joined, and in Korea, Samsung Electronics and LG Chem are participating.
The 14 domestic pharmaceutical companies participating this time are Daewon Pharmaceutical, Dongkoo Bio & Pharma, Dong Wha Pharm, Boryung Pharmaceutical, Samil Pharmaceutical, Samjin Pharmaceutical, Shinpoong Pharmaceutical, Yuhan Corporation, Ildong Pharmaceutical, Jeil Pharmaceutical, Chong Kun Dang, Korea Kolmar, Hanmi Pharmaceutical, and Huons (in alphabetical order).
The association expects that through membership, achievements such as new drug technology transfer and commercialization with universities, bio-ventures, and research institutes overseas will emerge. In particular, through MIT's startup information exchange program, "Startup Exchange," collaboration with more than 1,800 startups in various fields such as biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, and medical sectors is anticipated.

Won Hee-mok, chairman of the Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association, said, "By joining MIT ILP, we will be able to secure bigger and more opportunities in discovering new drug development projects, joint research, and technology cooperation."
