[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] In Anyang City, Gyeonggi Province, the head of a home care service center for the elderly has tested positive for COVID-19, raising concerns about additional infections among high-risk care recipients.
Anyang City announced on the 11th that a woman A (58, Anyang case number 45), living in Dae-do Apartment, Gwanyang 2-dong, Dongan-gu, tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the city and health authorities, Ms. A first showed symptoms of COVID-19 on the 5th, but was tested five days later on the 10th and confirmed positive that morning.
The city conducted disinfection at Ms. A's residence that morning and transferred her to Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center Paju Hospital.
It was confirmed that Ms. A is the head of Nanum Jae-ga Center (359beon-gil 20, Gwanak-daero, Dongan-gu), a home long-term care institution (home care) consisting of 18 care workers.
Therefore, there is a possibility that transmission occurred not only among the care workers who worked with her but also to the care recipients.
The health authorities immediately suspended the services of Nanum Jae-ga Center. In addition, tests are being conducted under self-quarantine for Ms. A's family of three and the care workers who worked with her.
Furthermore, the exact infection route of Ms. A and the care recipients who had contact with the care workers are being investigated.
Meanwhile, a man B (32, Anyang case number 44) living in Megatria Apartment, Anyang 7-dong, Manan-gu, was also confirmed positive on the same day.
