Shinan-gun Secures 57.1 Billion Won for 10 Projects Through First Half Public Contest

A Great Achievement for Job Creation and Revitalization of the Local Economy

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ki-woon] Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 9th that it secured a total of 57.1 billion KRW through participation in 10 projects in various public contests hosted by the central government and Jeollanam-do in the first half of this year.

Including the achievements since July 2018, the first year of the 7th local government administration, the total reaches 37 projects worth 215.6 billion KRW. The largest project this year is the Smart Aquaculture Cluster Development Project hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

The Smart Aquaculture Cluster, to be established in the Jadong-ri area of Jido-eup, is a cutting-edge marine industrial complex project that gathers smart aquaculture farms automated and intelligent using 4th Industrial Revolution technologies, along with related industries such as processing, distribution, export, and research and development. A total budget of 40 billion KRW, including 22 billion KRW in national funds, is expected to be invested by 2022.

The county expects that the cluster project, which anticipates innovative growth in the aquaculture industry, will create high-quality jobs and significantly increase fishermen’s incomes.

Additionally, selected projects include the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ general rural and fishing village development project for next year (7.1 billion KRW for Hwado, Dochomyeon), aging tourist site regeneration project (2.4 billion KRW for Daegwang Beach, Imja-myeon), small art museum establishment and operation support project (90 million KRW), fuel transport vessel construction support project (3.6 billion KRW), vulnerable area living condition improvement project (2 billion KRW for Byeongpung-ri, Jeungdo-myeon), cultural content development support project (240 million KRW), excellent crafts product market support project (30 million KRW), cultural and arts special zone creation project (140 million KRW), and National Fitness 100 Fitness Certification Center construction (1.5 billion KRW).

Sinan-gun has managed the selection of public contest projects by dividing them according to project implementation stages and has actively responded by continuously explaining the necessity and validity of the projects logically to Jeollanam-do and central government ministries through regular reporting sessions and occasional work meetings across all departments.

County Governor Park Woo-ryang said, “In the financially strained reality of the county, public contest projects have been a great help in revitalizing the local economy,” and added, “We will continue to respond to public contest projects through various methods such as expert consulting and proposals to local members of the National Assembly to discover necessary projects.”
