View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] To help farmers struggling due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), Gangwon Province, which had previously promoted the sale of potatoes and asparagus, has now launched a tomato sales event.
Starting at 10 a.m. on the 8th, Gangwon Province began a special tomato sale targeting consumers nationwide through the Provincial Agricultural Specialty Products Genuine Center and the Naver Smart Store 'Gangwon Mart.' The 1,500 boxes of tomatoes prepared that day sold out within 41 seconds of the sale opening.
In particular, the province sold one box of tomatoes (4kg) at the affordable price of 7,000 won. As a result, the server was overwhelmed with visitors as soon as the sale opened at 10 a.m., and all 1,500 boxes were sold out before 10:01 a.m.
The province will hold the special tomato sales eight times in total, every Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. from that day until the 1st of next month. The sales target is a total of 10,000 boxes (40 tons).
All the tomatoes sold this time are products cultivated by farms in the Chuncheon area.
Additionally, all sales profits will be delivered to the farmers. Shipping and packaging costs of 3,000 won will be supported separately.
Previously, the province set a record by selling out 2,000 tons of Gangwon potatoes and 20 tons of asparagus online.
Choi Moon-soon, Governor of Gangwon Province, actively promoted products such as potatoes and asparagus through his social network service (SNS).
