Global Big Data Research Institute Analyzes 11 Channels Excluding News
'Leniency' Opinion Related Words 59.05%, 18%P Higher Than Intolerance
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] A survey revealed that 6 out of 10 people hope for leniency regarding the prosecution's request for an arrest warrant against Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong.
The Global Big Data Research Institute announced on the 8th that an analysis of big data over five days from the 3rd to the afternoon of the 7th, when Samsung Group applied for the Prosecutor's Investigation Deliberation Committee, showed that the proportion of keywords related to leniency opinions (59.05%) was 18.1 percentage points higher than that of keywords related to intolerance opinions (40.95%).
The channels analyzed included a total of 11 places excluding news channels of media companies: communities, blogs, cafes, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, KakaoStory, Knowledge iN, companies and organizations, and government and public sectors.
During this period, the total number of posts mentioning "Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong" across the 11 channels was 4,783, and the total number of top 30 related keywords mentioned in these posts was 34,291. Among the related keywords in posts mentioning Vice Chairman Lee, those related to leniency opinions numbered 7,488, while those related to intolerance opinions numbered 5,192. These figures exclude 21,611 neutral keywords that are not directly related to public opinion.
The criteria for selecting neutral keywords include objective words such as "Lee Jae-yong" or "Samsung," or cases where leniency and intolerance opinions are balanced.
Keywords related to leniency opinions were ranked as follows: ▲'Deliberation Committee' 783 occurrences ▲'Management' 772 ▲'Korea' 767 ▲'People' 734 ▲'Concern' 697, while keywords related to intolerance opinions were ▲'Samsung C&T' 964 ▲'Suspicion' 954 ▲'Management Rights' 942 ▲'Cheil Industries' 856 ▲'Crisis' 752. However, keywords such as "Samsung C&T," "Cheil Industries," and "Crisis" were included in intolerance opinions.
The Global Big Data Research Institute added that not all original texts of each related keyword necessarily represent a one-sided opinion but indicate the tendency of the original text.
An institute official said, "Comments on articles about Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong's 'trial' tend to be negative, but comments on articles related to management, such as 'business trip to China,' are quite favorable."
