Summer Approaches Quickly... Pest Control Product Sales Already Booming
Gmarket Sees Increase in Sales of 'Pest Control Products' to Prevent Mosquitoes and Other Pests
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] As more people pursue thorough personal health management due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), sales of products that can control pests such as mosquitoes, which are vectors of summer diseases, are rapidly increasing.
According to Gmarket on the 9th, sales of mosquito and pest repellents in May alone recently increased by 30% compared to the previous year. Specifically, sales of pest repellent devices rose by 95%, and mosquito nets that block indoor and outdoor pests increased by 15%. Stroller covers and footmuffs, which are attached to strollers to protect infants with weak immunity, increased by 21%, and dog pest prevention products suitable for tick repellent during pet walks rose by 53%.
The Manitto mesh cover stroller mosquito net, which can be easily attached and detached from strollers, is also selling well on Gmarket. It offers various conveniences such as a sleep shade that helps infants sleep comfortably while blocking pest access during outings, a large zipper opening, and storage pockets. Additionally, the stroller footmuff installed at the bottom perfectly blocks even the smallest gaps through which pests could enter.
More consumers are purchasing mosquito-repellent plants in preparation for summer. This is interpreted as gaining popularity among parents raising young children because it is less harmful than chemical mosquito repellents. For example, the plant known as Gu-mun-cho, which is said to repel mosquitoes, emits a unique herbal scent from its leaves that mosquitoes dislike, providing a dual effect of a pleasant herbal aroma and mosquito repellent when placed in a room.
A similar trend can be seen on Auction as well. During the same period, sales of electric mosquito swatters increased by 13%, and mosquito nets sold 8% more than last year. Pest repellent products other than mosquito repellents also increased by 36%.
