Jung-gu, Ulsan held a meeting with heads of organizations and groups regarding the ongoing efforts to protect residents' property rights by easing the 'airport height restrictions.'
On the 4th, at 6 p.m., Jung-gu held the '2nd Quarter Residents Communication Council Meeting' at the Jung-gu Convention on the 2nd floor of the government building, attended by Park Tae-wan, head of Jung-gu Office, about 50 members of the Residents Communication Council including heads of local grassroots organizations and institutions.
At the meeting, the necessity, progress, and future plans of the 'airport height restriction easing,' one of the major pledges of the 7th local government administration, were discussed.
Participants raised various questions such as the timing of easing the height restrictions, safety issues in the area if the restrictions are eased, why Ulsan Airport, which is not an international airport, is subject to regulations, and the regions that are united in efforts to ease the height restrictions.
Jung-gu reiterated its policy to reasonably ease the uniform height restrictions to restore residents' property rights and revitalize the local economy.
Previously, in 2018, Jung-gu visited Gangseo-gu, Seoul, to benchmark the work on easing height restrictions. The two local governments agreed to strengthen cooperation and proposed easing the height restrictions around Ulsan Airport to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Last year, a support ordinance related to easing height restrictions around the airport was enacted, and the 'Jung-gu Airport Height Restriction Easing Promotion Committee' was formed.
From this year until 2021, a research project on easing airport height restrictions will be conducted targeting nine neighborhoods including Hakseong, Bang-gu 1 and 2, Boksa 1 and 2, Seongan, Byeongyeong 1 and 2, and Yaksadong to develop a reasonable easing plan. Additionally, the committee will hold meetings and actively make government proposals to expedite the easing of height restrictions.
Park Tae-wan, head of Jung-gu Office, said, "Since Korea is a member of ICAO, Ulsan Airport is also subject to height restrictions." He added, "Currently, cities around Gimpo Airport are pursuing easing height restrictions and have achieved some results, and in Ulsan, Buk-gu is also working together with Jung-gu on height restrictions."
