Violinist Lee Seongju, Beethoven 250th Anniversary Commemorative Performance
July 1 Performance of Sonata Nos. 1, 5, 7 and Romance No. 2 at IBK Chamber Hall, Seoul Arts Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] Violinist Seongju Lee, a professor at Korea National University of Arts (65, photo), will hold a recital at 7:30 PM on the 1st of next month at the IBK Chamber Hall of the Seoul Arts Center to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth.
In this performance, Professor Lee will play Beethoven's Violin Sonatas No. 1, 5, and 7, as well as Romance No. 2, representing classical music. He gained attention in 2009 by performing all 10 Beethoven violin sonatas in one day.
Professor Lee is a first-generation Korean violinist who won the special prize at the Ewha Kyunghyang Competition in 1966. While attending Ewha Girls' Middle School, he went to study in the United States, graduating from the Juilliard Preparatory School, the Juilliard School of Music, and its graduate school. In 1977, he made his debut recital at New York's Kaufman Hall. Since then, as a soloist, he won the New York Wieniawski Competition and was a prizewinner or finalist at major international competitions such as the Sibelius Competition, Washington Competition, Tchaikovsky Competition, Queen Elizabeth Competition, and Naumburg Competition.
In 1997, he founded the string ensemble "Joy of Strings." Currently, he serves as the artistic director of Joy of Strings and is dedicated to nurturing future talents at Korea National University of Arts.

In this concert, pianist Aviram Reichert, who won the bronze medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and is currently a professor in the Department of Instrumental Music at Seoul National University, will perform as a collaborator.
