Publication of Memoir by Choi Seo-won, the Secret Power Behind the National Scandal... 'Who Am I?'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Choi Seo-won (formerly Choi Soon-sil), the 'shadow power' sentenced to 18 years in prison in the retrial of the state corruption scandal, is releasing a memoir.
According to the legal and publishing industries on the 4th, Choi's memoir titled "Who Am I" is scheduled to be published later this month. The subtitle is "Choi Seo-won's Prison Memoir of Repentance (悔悟記)".
Looking at the book cover and table of contents, which were first revealed on the online bookstore Kyobo Book Centre, Choi appears to maintain her claim of innocence in the memoir, consistent with her attitude during the trials.
On the cover, she wrote, "I am serving time in prison without being able to properly defend myself just because I was close to a person in power," and added, "Even if I am criticized now, I want to tell the facts and truth about the distorted information that has been spread."
The table of contents includes chapters such as "Mistakes Made by Naivety," "The Truth of the State Corruption Scandal," "Framing President Park for Bribery," "Reconstruction of the State Corruption by the Prosecution," and "Plea Bargaining Using Family."
In the author introduction, Choi wrote, "Having overcome the grief of losing my mother well, I came to respect President Park Chung-hee for his dedication and even led the New Mind Movement for national unity, which brought me close to former President Park Geun-hye," and added, "Through my meeting with former President Park Geun-hye, I endured all kinds of hardships and trials under every administration."
It is known that Choi has been writing the memoir intermittently since being detained in the detention center.
