Daegu City Breaks Through 'COVID-19 Heatwave' with Yangsan Waste Campaign
Support of Cooling Fans for 10,000 Vulnerable Households Including Elderly Living Alone
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 4th that it will establish and implement heatwave countermeasures focused on expanding support for vulnerable groups during the summer and maintaining social distancing among people, in connection with overcoming the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Following last year's heatwave countermeasure satisfaction survey, which showed a high satisfaction rate of 86.5% for the 'Indoor Heatwave Shelter Project,' the target for the cooling fan support project will be significantly expanded, and the campaign to use parasols as a natural social distancing practice will continue.
First, about 10,000 households vulnerable to heatwaves among basic livelihood security recipients, who have difficulty using cooling facilities due to the temporary closure of indoor cooling shelters, will be provided with cooling equipment (cooling fans and electric fans). Additionally, more than 4,800 disaster helpers will engage in protection activities for vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone, homeless people, and residents of small rooms, using non-face-to-face and contactless methods.
Daegu City will also carry out a parasol lending project along with the campaign to normalize parasol use. A large-scale campaign to normalize parasol use regardless of gender will be conducted, and a pilot project for lending parasols will be implemented at three stations of Metro Line 3, six major streets including Dongseong-ro, downtown tourist spots, and urban parks.
Furthermore, shaded shelters and shade trees, which have high citizen satisfaction around crosswalks, will be expanded along with viewing-type fountain facilities.
