On the 4th, at the 'CEO Book Club' hosted by the Korea Productivity Center (KPC) at the Millennium Hilton Hotel in Seoul, Professor Kim delivered a lecture titled 'Artificial Intelligence and Business Innovation,' where he made these remarks.
Recognized as a leading scholar in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), Professor Kim explained, "A new competition has begun with AI. Systems that make decisions autonomously are being created, and the creation of value will increase rapidly." He described AI as a powerful tool for companies. He continued, "AI technology is open, and the trained results are also publicly available, so agility is a competitive advantage," adding, "The performance of AI is determined by the quantity and quality of data."
However, Professor Kim noted that the current representative AI technology, 'deep learning,' also has its limitations. It has been 10 years since deep learning has been used, and during this time, various technological limitations have emerged, ranging from the fundamental aspects of data-driven machine learning to a lack of engineering efforts. Professor Kim explained, "AI still has issues to become a robust engineering tool," and "While it delivers optimal results in statistical decision-making when there is sufficient data, it may not be suitable for other problems." Despite these limitations, since the commercial value of AI has just begun, companies must accurately understand the current capabilities and limitations of AI technology when applying it.
Following Professor Kim, Eung-Jun Yoo, CEO of NVIDIA Korea, who also gave a lecture, stated, "AI is driving productivity improvements across all industries," and "AI has brought innovation to every industry and will continue to expand into more areas." He added, "The three key conditions for AI success are data, algorithms, and hardware, but if I add one more, it is people," advising, "It is necessary to secure AI engineers." To secure AI competitiveness, it is essential to move quickly, and each company must cultivate AI engineers for this purpose.
Also attending the lecture, Kyu-Sung Noh, Chairman of the Productivity Center, said, "After COVID-19, there was talk that all companies would become AI companies. In the future, companies will not survive without utilizing artificial intelligence," emphasizing, "All companies must transform into intelligent companies that utilize AI-based platforms."
