Jin Joongkwon to Kim Namguk: "Be a Beautiful Sycophant"
[Asia Economy, Intern Reporter Kang Juhui] Jin Joongkwon, former professor at Dongyang University, criticized Kim Namguk, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party, on June 3, telling him to "be a beautiful sycophant" after Kim reversed his stance on defending former lawmaker Keum Taesup of the same party.
On his Facebook post that day, Jin stated, "Yesterday, you said you wanted to be like Keum Taesup, but now you seem confused," making this remark.
He continued, "Mr. Kim Namguk, don't lose your mind and just be a sycophant that suits your existence," adding, "It is beautiful for anyone to live according to their own station. Be a beautiful sycophant," he mocked.
Previously, in a media interview, lawmaker Kim had defended Keum, saying, "When Keum Taesup and Park Yongjin were first-term lawmakers, they voiced their convictions, and I believe that helped our party make more rational policy decisions."
However, Kim abruptly changed his position by posting a critical message about Keum. On June 3, Kim strongly criticized Keum on his Facebook, stating, "I hope he also reflects on his selfish and hypocritical behavior."
Earlier, the Democratic Party's Ethics Tribunal issued a "warning" on May 25 to Keum for criticizing the former Minister of Justice and abstaining from the vote on the establishment of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), sparking controversy.
