40s Man Stabs Taxi Driver with Weapon, Steals 100,000 Won, and Flees
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] A man in his 40s who stabbed a taxi driver with a weapon and stole 100,000 won in cash before fleeing in Busan was arrested by the police.
Busan Bukbu Police Station announced on the 3rd that they have arrested and are investigating a man in his 40s, Mr. A, on suspicion of attempted robbery and murder.
Mr. A is accused of stabbing a taxi driver in his 50s, Mr. B, with a weapon and stealing 100,000 won in cash on a road in front of a convenience store in Jeonggwan-myeon, Gijang-gun, Busan, around 11:30 p.m. on the 1st.
He is also suspected of putting the injured Mr. B into the taxi, driving for about an hour, then leaving Mr. B in front of a restaurant in Dongnae-gu, Busan, before fleeing the scene.
After receiving Mr. B’s report, the police analyzed the closed-circuit television (CCTV) around the crime scene, identified the suspect, and tracked him down, arresting Mr. A at 5:55 a.m. on the 2nd in Mandeok-dong, Buk-gu.
Mr. B was transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition without life-threatening injuries.
During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated that he committed the crime due to financial difficulties.

Mr. A, for whom an arrest warrant was requested, underwent a warrant hearing at the Busan Western District Court on the same day.
