The target infrastructure includes a total of 15 types: seven social overhead capital (SOC) facilities including roads, railroads, ports, airports, river facilities, dams, and reservoirs, and eight underground facilities including water supply, sewage, electricity, gas, heat supply, telecommunications, oil pipelines, and utility tunnels.
The purpose of this project is to build a database by investigating and analyzing specifications, maintenance and performance improvement history, budget input, and other related information on national infrastructure.
By establishing a system for interlinked management of information that has been individually managed by institutions or facilities, it is expected to help in the formulation of policies and planning at the government-wide level.
To enable more professional investigations, the Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation and Korea Gas Safety Corporation will jointly carry out the project, and to ensure the project is implemented solidly, cooperation systems will be established with specialized institutions in each infrastructure field such as the Construction Research Institute, Railroad Research Institute, and Rural Research Institute.
The project will be conducted in four phases from this year through 2023, and in the first year (May 2020 to March 2021), it plans to establish a classification system for infrastructure for systematic investigation, derive survey items, and conduct basic status surveys of existing infrastructure.
