[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] The student council presidents of five universities in Gyeongsan City, Gyeongsangbuk-do, will embark on a "Walk to the Ministry of Education" national trek on the 2nd, demanding partial tuition refunds from the Ministry of Education and each university.
According to Yeungnam University on the 1st, these student council presidents will hold a press conference at Gyeongsan City Hall on the 2nd to make these demands to the Ministry of Education, then proceed on a roughly 230 km march on foot to the Ministry of Education at the Government Sejong Complex. They plan to arrive at the Ministry of Education on the 10th and request a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye and relevant officials.
The five universities in the Gyeongsan area include Yeungnam University, Daegu Catholic University, Kyungil University, Daegu University, and Daegu Haany University.
The student council presidents stated on the 31st, "We submitted a statement to the Ministry of Education on May 5th demanding tuition refunds, but the Ministry has only offered evasive remarks and token responses," and urged, "The Ministry of Education should apologize for the lack of policies in the university sector, recommend that universities return part of the tuition by providing additional budgets, and present appropriate solutions."
