'Youth Startup LAB' Opens on Pohang University Campus … Serving as a Lifestyle Startup Platform
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Pohang City announced on the 31st that it held an opening ceremony for the 'Pohang City Youth Startup LAB,' a space created for young people to realize their entrepreneurial dreams, on the 29th at the Pohang University campus.
The opening ceremony was attended by about 200 people, including Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, Han Hong-su, President of Pohang University, Han Jin-wook, Vice Chairman of the Pohang City Council, National Assembly member Kim Jeong-jae, Park Yong-seon, Chair of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council's Council Operation Committee, heads of startup-related organizations, and young entrepreneurs.
The 'Pohang City Youth Startup LAB' is a project selected in 2018 as part of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's region-led youth job creation program through a Gyeongsangbuk-do public contest. Pohang University was also selected in the first local subsidy contest in 2019 and completed the construction of the Youth Startup LAB, a two-story building with a total area of 425㎡, in December of the same year.
The first floor consists of an education room, a shared studio for startup product photography and editing, and a shared kitchen where startup founders can develop recipes and conduct cooking classes. The second floor is designed as a shared office equipped with startup-related materials and a joint workshop for prototype production. The space is open not only to young entrepreneurs but also to all citizens interested in startups.

Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, emphasized, "Although there are numerous successful startup cases everywhere and new startups are continuously being created at this very moment, many fail to overcome the 'death valley' phase and disappear. I hope that by making efficient use of the spaces in the Youth Startup LAB, it will become a foothold that can take a step forward as a platform for lifestyle startups."
