[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] In Busan, the quarantine authorities are on high alert as new confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported for the third consecutive day.
Following a man in his 50s who entered from Bangladesh on the 27th (Busan case number 142), a man in his 60s who entered from Ecuador on the 28th (Busan case number 143), and on the 29th, a high school senior student (Busan case number 144) tested positive.
According to Busan City and the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education on the 30th, a high school senior student was confirmed positive for COVID-19 for the first time since in-person classes began. Naeseong High School in Busan, where the student is enrolled, has placed all students and staff under self-quarantine, and will suspend in-person classes starting June 1, switching to remote learning.
The student was absent on the 27th due to symptoms of pharyngitis, attended school on the 28th but left early due to diarrhea and abdominal pain symptoms. On the afternoon of the 29th, the student tested positive for COVID-19.
This is the first confirmed student case in Busan since in-person classes began last week, starting with high school seniors.
On the 30th, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education decided to conduct diagnostic tests on all classmates of the student. In addition, they are identifying the student’s recent movements and contacts, and conducting an epidemiological investigation together with Busan City.
