New York City to Begin Phased Economic Reopening Starting Next Month 8
Construction and Manufacturing Operations... New York State Begins Full Regional Normalization
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] New York City, the hardest hit by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the United States, is expected to enter Phase 1 economic reopening around June 8. In Phase 1, construction, manufacturing, and retail businesses can operate.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo stated during a daily briefing in Brooklyn on the 29th (local time) that New York City is expected to meet the criteria for Phase 1 economic reopening by June 8.
Once New York City enters the reopening phase, all regions of New York State will begin Phase 1 economic reopening. New York State classifies the state into 10 regions and has allowed Phase 1 reopening for regions that meet seven self-established conditions, including hospitalization rates, permitting construction, agriculture, forestry, fishing, hunting, manufacturing, wholesale trade, and retail (takeout or street vending).
Currently, New York City is reported to be failing to meet some of the seven criteria, including hospital bed availability and contact tracers for suspected infections.
