This Year Again, Roofs Turn White... Love Temperature Rises, Building Temperature Drops
Busan City, Noroo Paint, and Architects Association Continue Resource and Talent Donation Campaign
Volunteers participating in last year's 'White Roof' project are painting rooftop roofs with white paint.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The 'White Roof Installation Support Project,' carried out through donations of funds and talents, will continue in Busan this year as well.
The White Roof Installation Support Project is a public-private collaboration aimed at reducing greenhouse gases from buildings, mitigating urban heat island effects, and realizing low-carbon green architecture by installing white roofs on existing residential buildings.
A white roof is a construction method that applies a bright-colored coating with sunlight and solar heat reflection effects to the roof, lowering indoor temperatures by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius.
Last year, Busan City signed a business agreement with Noroo Paint and the Busan Architectural Society to lay the foundation for a fund and talent donation campaign to help vulnerable groups have a healthy summer.
This year, Noroo Paint will support construction materials such as heat-reflective special paint, and the Busan Architectural Society will be responsible for roof construction. Busan City has selected 19 facilities, including senior centers in 8 districts, as project sites this year. The plan is to complete all construction by early June, before the peak heat season begins.
