Denmark Develops 'COVID-19 Testing Robot'... Will It Reduce Healthcare Workers' Risk?
[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] Danish researchers have succeeded in developing a robot that tests for infection with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This robot collects samples from the subject's throat using a swab. When used in the field, it is expected to reduce the risk of infection for medical personnel.
According to AFP on the 27th (local time), the University of Southern Denmark has developed a robot capable of COVID-19 screening tests. The robot uses a 3D-printed disposable arm that is automatically replaced after testing each patient. The researchers added that the robot collects samples from the throat with a swab and then places them into a vial.
The university stated, "The research team has developed the world's first fully automated robot capable of performing COVID-19 throat swab collection," explaining that using this robot prevents healthcare workers from being exposed to infection risks.
