Daegu City Offers 100,000 Won Gift Certificates to 10,000 Unemployed College Graduates... Recruitment Underway
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 28th that it is recruiting participants for the 'COVID-19 Overcome Unemployed Youth Support Voucher Project' to help local youth who are struggling due to the direct impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The Youth Support Voucher Project is a program that provides 100,000 KRW worth of mobile cultural gift certificates, which can be used for social entry activities such as book purchases, to 10,000 local unemployed youth who graduated (or are expected to graduate) from university this year but missed the employment period. Applications can be submitted through the Youth Social Entry Activity Support System from June 1 to 8.
The applicants must be unemployed youth who have an address in Daegu and graduated (or are expected to graduate) in 2020. If there are many applicants, selection will be prioritized based on criteria such as loss of part-time jobs this year (whether employment insurance qualification has been lost) and graduation status (graduates given priority).
According to Statistics Korea's 'April Employment Trends,' the employment rate of the youth group (ages 15-29) was 40.9% (a 2.0 percentage point decrease compared to the previous year), the largest decline among all age groups. In March 2020, the scale of new hires by companies fell by 24.5% compared to the same month last year (34.4% decline in Daegu), indicating that the youth employment crisis is at its worst.
Moon Woo-hyun, president of the Kyungpook National University Student Council, said, "The Youth Support Voucher Project will be a great help for unemployed youth who are going through the hardest times due to COVID-19 to overcome and get through their difficulties," and added, "We thank the local community for sharing their warm hearts on behalf of the struggling youth."
