Special Exhibition Opening in May 1980 to Experience the 'Gwangju Spirit'
At the 5·18 Archive until the 29th of next month... Exhibiting UNESCO Memory of the World Heritage and more
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Movement, a special exhibition allowing visitors to feel the Gwangju Spirit of the citizens of Gwangju in 1980 has opened.
According to the May 18 Democratic Movement Archives on the 27th, this special exhibition titled "Visible and Invisible" will be held until the 29th of next month.
This exhibition focuses on the Gwangju Spirit (the invisible) that can be understood through records produced by the citizens of Gwangju in 1980, which have been less known to the public, overshadowed by grand discourses (the visible) such as truth investigation, punishment of responsible parties, and commemorative projects centered on the May 18 Democratic Movement.
Works expressing UNESCO World Documentary Heritage and records through photography and video art are also on display.
The operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and inquiries can be made to the May 18 Democratic Movement Archives.
After the special exhibition ends on the 29th of next month, it will be available in an online exhibition hall.
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony held on the day, meaning "The Last Day of the Struggle 40 Years Ago," was attended by Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City; Lee Cheol-woo, Chairman of the May 18 Memorial Foundation; Yang Jo-hoon, Chairman of the Jeju 4·3 Peace Foundation; and May 18 organizations (Democratic Merit Family Association, Detained and Injured Association, Injured Association).
