Gwangju Dong-gu 'Gender Equality Fund' Public Project Promotion
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 27th that it will promote the "2020 Gender Equality Fund Contest" project under the theme "Gwangju Dong-gu, a Women-Friendly City Blooming Together with Happiness" until the 5th of next month.
This contest project is a new initiative to strengthen community activity capabilities as part of the 2020 Women-Friendly City implementation plan, conducted across three major fields: ▲Gender Equality ▲Regional Specialization ▲Social Participation.
For each field, three projects will be recruited: ▲One educational institution for "Is Your Bookshelf Equal?" aimed at training gender equality education activists through picture books ▲One educational institution for the visiting women leaders capacity-building village education "Asking the Way at the Women-Friendly City Village Sarangchae" ▲Three to five participating groups for the women’s small group activation support project "Creating Seeds for Women and Family-Friendly Villages."

So far, the district has implemented various women-friendly policies such as ▲Operation of the illegal filming NO! public restroom hidden camera guard group ▲Participation in community job projects for multicultural immigrant women ▲Installation of women’s safety parcel lockers ▲Operation of Dong-gu Women’s University for immediate employment ▲Creation of parking spaces considerate of women, children, and the elderly ▲Expansion of Mom-friendly public daycare centers ▲Installation of infant and toddler plazas ▲Improvement of safe and bright road lighting facilities ▲One-stop pregnancy support services ▲Happy Dad cooking classes.
Additionally, this year, the district plans to continuously develop effective women-friendly policies by discovering specialized projects such as ▲Operation of the Women-Friendly Citizen Participation Group "Sympathy Chat" ▲Operation of low-income women job creation project groups ▲Job matching days "Grab Your Job" ▲Support for women and family-friendly villages and care communities ▲Settlement support projects for multicultural immigrant women.
Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, "This year will be a year of growth as a women-friendly city through the development of various new projects linked to village community projects," and added, "Through this contest project, we will create an environment where women can fully demonstrate their capabilities in various fields and further realize a gender-equal city where all citizens are happy."

Meanwhile, Dong-gu was first designated as a women-friendly city in 2012, and this year marks the fourth year of the second phase. Under the theme "Gwangju Dong-gu, a Women-Friendly City Blooming Together with Happiness," it plans to create a women-friendly city where not only women but all citizens are happy by allocating a project budget of 1.535 billion KRW for 31 tasks across five major fields.
