[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Renault Samsung Motors is offering various purchase benefits for electric vehicles such as the SM3 Z.E. and Twizy to boost sales.
The government subsidy for the SM3 Z.E. is set at 6.16 million KRW, and when combined with the special purchase subsidy of 6 million KRW provided by Renault Samsung, customers can buy the SM3 Z.E. at a discount of 12.16 million KRW. Additionally, when local government subsidies are added, the actual purchase cost becomes even lower. For example, in Jeju-do, where the 2020 electric vehicle purchase subsidy is set at 5 million KRW, the actual purchase price of the SM3 Z.E. is 19.84 million KRW for the SE trim and 21.84 million KRW for the RE trim. In Ulleung-gun, which offers the highest local subsidy of 10 million KRW, the SE trim can be purchased for 14.84 million KRW and the RE trim for 16.84 million KRW.
The benefits are even greater when purchasing the SM3 Z.E. electric taxi. Renault Samsung offers a 25% discount on the vehicle price to customers buying the SM3 Z.E. taxi, actively promoting the spread of electric taxis. Through this, buyers of the SM3 Z.E. taxi can receive the national electric taxi purchase subsidy of 8.16 million KRW plus the 25% discount. In particular, in Seoul, where an additional 10 million KRW taxi purchase subsidy is provided, the SM3 Z.E. taxi can be purchased for 8,430,910 KRW.

The SM3 Z.E. is the only 5-seat compact sedan-type electric vehicle in Korea, featuring spacious interior and sophisticated design. The driving range on a full battery charge is 213 km. Based on the average daily driving distance of 40 km for passenger cars in Korea, as announced by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, it can be driven for about 5 days on a single charge. Another attractive feature is the battery capacity warranty condition, which covers 70% capacity within 8 years or 160,000 km.
