Suspended Sentence for Jung Yura on Fraud and Defamation Charges... Both Sides Appeal
Uijeongbu District Court Sentences Jung to Eight Months in Prison, Suspended for Two Years
Jung Yuyeon (formerly Jung Yura, age 30), who was indicted on charges of fraud and defamation, has appealed the first trial verdict that sentenced her to a suspended prison term. Prosecutors have also filed an appeal, citing reasons such as the unfairness of the sentence.
According to the legal community on May 15, the Namyangju branch of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office filed an appeal on May 13 against the first trial verdict for Jung, citing the sentencing as unjust.

However, on May 7, Judge Ha Seokchan of the Criminal Division 1 of the Uijeongbu District Court sentenced Jung to eight months in prison, suspended for two years.
Jung was indicted without detention in July last year on charges of borrowing approximately 70 million won from an acquaintance between 2022 and 2023, promising to pay interest but failing to repay the loan. She also faced additional charges of defaming another victim through social networking services (SNS) and other means. Jung did not appear at the first trial held in September last year, leading to her arrest in February and subsequent detention at the Uijeongbu Detention Center. However, she was released after receiving a suspended sentence in the first trial.

However, it also noted, "The victim of the fraud has reached a settlement and does not wish to pursue punishment, and the defendant has admitted to all charges and shown remorse." On May 14, Jung filed a notice of appeal through her attorney.
