View original image[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] A controversy has arisen after an SUV collided with an elementary school student riding a bicycle in a children's protection zone (school zone) in Dongchon-dong, Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, and another video showing the front view at the time of the accident has been released.
On the 27th, a closed-circuit television (CCTV) video showing the front view at the time of the accident spread on an online community.
The released video shows a white SUV and a boy riding a bicycle entering an alley simultaneously. Then, the vehicle slightly turned toward the bicycle the child was riding, and the child fell to the ground. The car stopped after running several meters while stepping on the rear wheel of the bicycle, and the fallen child quickly got up as if startled.
The Gyeongju school zone accident became known after the boy A (9 years old)'s older sister B posted a video showing the side view of the accident on her Instagram (SNS) on the previous day (26th).
B stated, "There was a scuffle between my younger brother and another child, but the other child's mother chased my brother, who was riding a bicycle, into the lane by crossing the center line and deliberately hit him with the car," and added, "The children had a trivial issue, but the other child chased my brother, even driving against traffic, crossing the center line, and deliberately hitting him."
She continued, "The road before entering the corner where the accident occurred is also a school zone. According to witness testimony, the brake lights of the accident vehicle did not come on," and said, "Drivers know that they slow down at corners. And if they feel something has hit, they brake suddenly."
She added, "However, the driver in the video pressed the accelerator and hit the bicycle wheel and the child's leg until they were run over. The car jolted," and said, "Even after getting out of the car, the driver did not say a word to ask if my brother was okay. A witness called 119. This is clearly an act of murder. If this video did not exist, would the driver in the video claim it was a simple, minor accident? Please share."
