Yongin City Rolls Up Sleeves to Host the '2022 Gyeonggi Sports Festival' for the First Time
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has launched a bid to host the 2022 Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival.
On the 26th, Yongin City announced on the 27th that it held a resolution event in the mayor's office to bid for the '2022 Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival.'
The event was attended by 30 people, including Mayor Baek Gun-gi of Yongin, Lee Geon-han, chairman of the Yongin City Council, Jo Hyo-sang, president of the Yongin City Sports Council, and related sports council officials.
The city and the Yongin City Sports Council plan to submit the 'bid application' to the Gyeonggi-do Sports Council on the 27th. Earlier, the Yongin City Council adopted a 'support letter for the bid' reflecting the wishes of 1.08 million Yongin citizens.
After submitting the application, the city will actively promote the bid by highlighting advantages such as the Citizen Sports Park with a capacity of about 37,000 seats and the sports infrastructure and convenient transportation owned by the city.

Mayor Baek said, "Although Yongin has grown into a large city with a population of 1.08 million, it has never hosted the Provincial Sports Festival before," adding, "We will definitely succeed in the bid, promote the city's excellent infrastructure, and create an opportunity to revitalize the local economy."
