Prince Harry and Wife, Who Became Independent from British Royal Family... Called 'Dad~' When Money Ran Out
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Prince Harry, who declared independence from the British royal family, has ultimately turned to his father, Prince Charles, for financial support, the British daily Daily Mail reported on the 25th (local time).
According to the report, Prince Harry and his wife had announced that they would repay the ?2.4 million (approximately 3.6 billion KRW) renovation costs for Frogmore Cottage at Windsor Castle, their residence in the UK, after declaring independence from the British royal family. When controversy arose over the fact that this cost was covered by taxpayers during their process of separating from the royal family, the couple pledged to repay the entire amount.
Since April, the couple has been paying ?18,000 (approximately 27 million KRW) monthly, covering rent and construction costs. The British tabloid The Sun reported that it would take more than 11 years to fully repay the pure renovation costs, excluding interest and operating expenses.
However, after the couple recently relocated to Los Angeles (LA), California, USA, astronomical security expenses have arisen, making the previously pledged Frogmore Cottage renovation repayment a financial burden.
It is estimated that hiring private security guards in LA, where the couple resides, costs up to ?4 million (approximately 6 billion KRW) annually.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and his wife established a residence on Vancouver Island, Canada, last November and moved to the United States in March this year. When they moved to Canada, they received protection from the Canadian police, but this support was discontinued after stepping down from the royal family.
