The third-wave infection case at an Itaewon club in Daegu is a part-time worker at a large restaurant... Daegu City in an uproar
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 23rd that it has identified a 19-year-old male confirmed as the third-generation COVID-19 infection from the Itaewon club cluster, who had been working part-time at a large restaurant in the city, and is conducting an epidemiological investigation.
All 41 individuals identified as direct contacts, including three family members of Mr. A, who was confirmed positive the previous day, and 10 employees of the part-time restaurant, have been tested and placed under self-quarantine. A follow-up investigation is also underway on contacts identified through the review of card usage records and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the restaurant.
Mr. A, who lives in Dalseo-gu, is presumed to have been infected by his friend Mr. B from Seoul, who visited Daegu between the 11th and 20th. Mr. B was infected by his Seoul friend Mr. C, who tested positive after visiting the Itaewon club before his trip to Daegu. Health authorities have analyzed this as a third-generation infection originating from Itaewon.
Mr. A showed symptoms of a runny nose and phlegm starting the morning of the 20th. Classified as a contact of the already confirmed Mr. B, he was tested on the 21st and received a final positive diagnosis on the 22nd.
Daegu City disclosed Mr. A’s movement paths, including at Gonggiban Soriban Coin Karaoke, Tongtong Coin Karaoke, and Rockhyu Coin Karaoke Practice Room (Dongseong-ro Branch 2), and requested citizens who visited these places around the same time to refrain from going out. They also strongly recommended voluntary testing through the local health center from the 23rd to the 29th.
A city official requested, "Please refrain from visiting high-risk facilities vulnerable to infection such as karaoke practice rooms and clubs where it is difficult to comply with quarantine rules, and voluntarily participate in practicing social distancing in daily life to prevent community transmission."
