Gangseo-gu Promotes Safety Inspections for Small and Medium-Sized Private Construction Projects
Focused Inspection on Selecting High-Risk Construction Sites Among Small to Medium Sites Under 10,000㎡
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Noh Hyun-song) will conduct intensive safety inspections on small and medium-sized private construction sites under 10,000㎡.
As of April this year, there are about 200 private construction sites in Gangseo-gu, of which 73 sites, accounting for more than 36%, are small to medium-sized construction sites under 10,000㎡ with basement floors.
These small to medium-sized construction sites have not been regularly inspected until now, leaving a safety blind spot.
Accordingly, the district will select high-risk construction sites among small to medium-sized sites and conduct focused inspections on high-risk work types such as demolition, excavation, and cranes.
Through deliberation (consultation) by the district's specialized committee in the field of architectural review, high-risk construction sites are selected. Construction sites with safety concerns around the site, specific complaints related to poor construction, and other cases requiring safety inspections for accident prevention are designated as high-risk construction sites ex officio.
For construction sites designated as high-risk, a condition is imposed on the building permit (approval) requiring the site supervisor responsible for safety management to apply for a safety inspection from the district before starting vulnerable work types.
The district forms an inspection team composed of field experts and district office staff. The experts focus on inspecting on-site hazard factors, while the district staff focus on inspecting the safety management status of the site supervisors.
Any issues pointed out in the inspection results must be corrected before continuing construction. In cases where the site supervisor is not present or the construction does not follow the design, which are serious violations, administrative measures will be taken against the related construction personnel.
