Geumcheon-gu Promotes Hope Job Project to Overcome COVID-19
Expanding the Existing Public Work Program, Recruiting 330 People for 63 Projects... Apply at Local Community Centers from May 21 to June 3
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) is recruiting participants for the ‘COVID-19 Overcome Hope Job Project’ to support the livelihoods of Geumcheon-gu residents facing unemployment and business suspension or closure due to the economic downturn caused by COVID-19.
The ‘Hope Job Project’ being recruited this time expands the target and scale of the public work projects previously provided to vulnerable groups, broadening participation to residents in need of livelihood support due to COVID-19.
The district is recruiting a total of 330 people for 63 projects including △ Job Center administrative support △ Anyangcheon maintenance project △ Operation of Everyone’s Village Space Community Center △ Civil service guidance and environmental maintenance at neighborhood community service centers.
Eligibility requirements include unemployed or daily workers without regular income among Geumcheon-gu residents aged 18 or older, whose household income is at or below 65% of the median income standard and whose combined family assets are 200 million KRW or less, or those who have lost jobs or closed businesses due to COVID-19, or special employment workers and freelancers whose income has sharply declined.
Residents wishing to participate can visit their local neighborhood community service center with the required documents from May 21 to June 3 to apply in person.
The district will verify qualifications and screen eligibility, selecting candidates in order of vulnerability, and will individually notify selected participants on July 2.
Selected residents will work 3 to 8 hours per day, 5 days a week, for 5 months from July 6 to December 20. The wage is 8,590 KRW per hour, with an additional 5,000 KRW snack allowance paid separately.
In the first half of 2020, the district completed the selection of 245 public work participants, but due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing economic downturn, an additional 119 people were recruited in May through neighborhood public jobs.
Going forward, the district plans to expand support for 10 types of public jobs to aid local economic recovery, including life quarantine support, emergency public work support, and public rest area improvements.
The Hope Job Project will be swiftly implemented from selection to placement to promptly respond to the livelihood stabilization and stable employment policies for residents affected by COVID-19.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We are creating a large number of public jobs in various fields to support residents’ economic damages caused by the COVID-19 crisis,” adding, “We will speedily promote not only public jobs but also additional stable employment policies to support residents’ livelihood stabilization.”
