Pohang-si Hwanho-dong Steep Slope Maintenance Progress at 18% ... Mayor Lee Kang-deok On-site Inspection
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Pohang City, Gyeongsangbuk-do announced that Mayor Lee Kang-deok visited the 'Hwanho District Steep Slope Maintenance Construction' site at San 65, Hwanho-dong on the 20th to inspect the progress of the project and safety management status.
The steep slope in the Hwanho District is a hazardous area located on the coastal slope of Hwanho Park, characterized by a high gradient and composed of shale layers. During heavy rains, frequent soil runoff and rockfalls have caused inconvenience to vehicle traffic and raised ongoing concerns about potential casualties.
After designating the area as a steep slope collapse risk zone, Pohang City continuously requested the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to recognize the necessity of the maintenance project. As a result, in June of last year, the city secured half of the total project cost of 14.6 billion KRW from national funds and commenced construction. The project, scheduled for completion in November 2021, has currently excavated 50,000 cubic meters of soil and rock, achieving a progress rate of 18%.
