According to Kim Won-i's office on the 20th, he attended a press conference held at 11 a.m. on the 19th by the KBS Mokpo Broadcasting Station Viewer Committee and the Pan-Citizen Countermeasure Committee opposing the abolition of the KBS Mokpo Broadcasting Station.
In addition to the organizers, about 50 people, including members of 33 organizations such as Mokpo YMCA, Mokpo YWCA, Mokpo Environmental Movement Federation, Mokpo Kyungsilryun, Justice Party Mokpo City Committee, Minjung Party Mokpo City Committee, as well as Mokpo city and provincial council members, participated together.
Kim Won-i reaffirmed his firm opposition to the KBS Mokpo Broadcasting Station closure plan together with them.
The attendees of the press conference criticized, "KBS, the only public broadcaster in our country, is scheming to close seven regional stations under the pretext of overcoming financial difficulties, failing to take the lead in developing local media and culture by utilizing valuable regional broadcasting infrastructure. This is an act of abandoning its identity as a public broadcaster," and urged KBS to immediately halt discussions on closing the Mokpo Broadcasting Station.
In particular, Kim Won-i proposed to the elected members of the National Assembly from Jeollanam-do to firmly reject the closure plans for the KBS Mokpo and Suncheon Broadcasting Stations, and reported that all elected members agreed to this.
Kim Won-i said, "The central government is sucking up the region's history and cultural resources like a black hole, putting the region on the brink of extinction," adding, "This is an act that contradicts the strengthening of local autonomy and the government's regional coexistence policies, accelerating the decline of the region."
He emphasized, "I will spare no effort to protect the KBS Mokpo Broadcasting Station together with the citizens of Mokpo."
