[Interview②] "Wanna Go to the Movies?" Cheetah, the Moment She Started Dating Director Nam Yeon-woo ♥
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Singer and actress Cheetah (Kim Eun-young) shared her love story with director Nam Yeon-woo.
On the morning of the 19th, Cheetah spoke about various aspects of the film Critical Point of Interest (directed by Nam Yeon-woo) during a round interview held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
It was previously revealed that Cheetah and director Nam Yeon-woo met through Critical Point of Interest and have been dating for two years since 2018.
That day, Cheetah recalled her first meeting with director Nam Yeon-woo: “During the process of planning Critical Point of Interest at the film company Lezhin, they approached me with a music proposal. After listening to my song about prejudice, they said it would fit well with the film and asked if I could also act. I said, ‘I will try.’ Later, senior actress Jo Min-soo joined as the mother role, which made me very happy. Director Nam joined afterward,” she said.
She continued, “I understand that the film company proposed the directing role to Nam Yeon-woo after seeing his work titled ‘Makeup’ which dealt with prejudice. So I looked up ‘Makeup.’ It was really good. After that, we had a meeting and got to know each other that way,” she said.
She added, “I tried hard to suppress the feelings rising up for director Nam Yeon-woo. I wasn’t professional, so I kept telling myself, ‘Why are you like this? Please stop. Don’t do it,’ trying to pull myself together, but it didn’t work. I think the director felt the same way; neither of us could hide our feelings,” she confessed.
Who confessed first? Cheetah said, “We didn’t confess, but naturally our hearts connected and we started dating. During the process of developing the script, we shared various stories and had drinks together. But even though I drank less than my usual amount, I felt drunk. I had never gotten drunk after one bottle, but I was staggering. After the drinking session, director Nam Yeon-woo drove me home and asked, ‘What are you doing tomorrow?’ I said I had no schedule, and he asked, ‘Shall we watch a movie tomorrow?’ That’s how we started dating,” she said shyly.
On set, the two tried to focus on the work. Cheetah said, “We agreed to clearly separate work and personal life. Dating is dating, work is work. I told director Nam, ‘Please be just the director on set.’ He asked if it was okay if he couldn’t pay attention to me, and I begged him to do just that,” she said.
