[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] NCT member Jaehyun posted a handwritten apology regarding his visit to restaurants and bars in Itaewon, Seoul during the 'social distancing' period.
On the 19th, Jaehyun apologized in a post on his Instagram, saying, "I am sorry for causing concern to many people due to my actions during this difficult time for everyone."
He continued, "Despite the social distancing period, I thought carelessly and visited restaurants and bars in Itaewon, for which I deeply reflect," adding, "I sincerely apologize to the many people who were disappointed by my actions, to the fans who trusted and supported me, and also to the members, the company, and everyone around me who were affected because of me."
He also stated, "I will carefully consider and be cautious about every action from now on," and added, "Once again, I sincerely apologize to the many people and fans who are going through difficult times due to COVID-19 for causing concern."
It was confirmed later that Jaehyun visited Itaewon restaurants and pubs on the 25th of last month with BTS member Jungkook, Astro’s Cha Eunwoo, and Seventeen’s Mingyu during the social distancing period, sparking controversy. All of them reportedly underwent COVID-19 tests and received negative results.
Their agencies, SM Entertainment and Big Hit Entertainment, explained that they did not visit the club where COVID-19 cases were confirmed and that they visited a week before the first confirmed case had been there.
However, despite the emphasis on social distancing during that period, the four visited the Itaewon area, and even though suspicions arose, they did not clearly state their position until before the reports, leading to strong public criticism.
