Seoul City Reports Total of 97 Confirmed Cases Related to Itaewon Clubs... Some Cases with Unknown Infection Routes
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] As of 6 p.m. on the 18th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases related to Itaewon clubs in Seoul reached 97. This is an increase of 4 cases from the 93 confirmed as of 10 a.m.

View original imageSo far, this is just one case fewer than the 98 confirmed cases related to the Sindorim-dong call center in Guro-gu, which remains the largest cluster infection in the metropolitan area. Accordingly, the cumulative total of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Seoul has risen to 741.
There have also been cases of additional transmission from confirmed patients whose infection routes are unknown. Guro-gu announced that its 36th confirmed patient was diagnosed after contact with Goyang-si’s 43rd confirmed patient. The infection route of Goyang 43rd patient is currently under investigation with no clear leads.
According to epidemiological investigations, the Goyang 43rd patient had no history of cohabiting with infected persons, recent travel, or contact with other confirmed cases, and was always wearing a mask when going out. The Guro 36th patient began experiencing flu-like symptoms and entered self-quarantine on the 15th, the same day the Goyang 43rd patient was confirmed positive. The Guro patient was tested on the 17th and confirmed positive on the morning of the 18th.

Yangcheon-gu and Yeongdeungpo-gu also reported new confirmed cases on the same day. The Central Disease Control Headquarters reported that as of noon, the total number of nationwide confirmed cases related to the clubs reached 170. Since the Seoul confirmed cases were counted as 93 at that time, the nationwide total related to the clubs is estimated to be at least 174 when including the additional Seoul cases.
