Hyundai Motor Company Displays Future Mobility City Scale Model at Headquarters
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Future mobility solutions such as UAM (Urban Air Mobility), PBV (Purpose Built Vehicle), and Hub (mobility transfer hub) have appeared at Hyundai Motor Company's Yangjae headquarters building.
On the 17th, Hyundai Motor announced that it installed a scaled-down model of the 'Smart Mobility Solution' for realizing a dynamic future city, which was unveiled at the CES in the United States last January, in the lobby on the first floor of its headquarters.
Until now, Hyundai Motor has displayed its main new cars and concept cars in the lobby on the first floor of its headquarters, allowing employees and customers to freely view them. This is the first time that the future mobility vision, rather than new cars, has been concretely exhibited.
A Hyundai Motor official explained that this exhibition aims to intuitively show Hyundai Motor employees the future mobility vision and to raise the will to transform into a 'smart mobility solution company.' The exhibition will continue until the 12th of next month, and afterward, it will be displayed at major global events to provide viewing opportunities to customers worldwide.
The exhibit is designed at a 1:8 scale within a 107㎡ space, emphasizing three-dimensional and realistic details. The organic connection of UAM, PBV, and Hub clearly expresses the concept of future mobility that Hyundai Motor will realize.
On the landing and takeoff pad installed on the Hub, the flying mobility device UAM is located, while on the ground, seven PBVs made for personalized purposes are shown running on the road. The PBV models actually move around the Hub and connect to the Hub's docking station, creating the appearance of becoming part of the building. The UAM features eight propellers that tilt (switching vertically during takeoff and landing and horizontally during forward flight) and rotate, vividly showing a flying situation.
Additionally, mirrors are installed on the ceiling of the exhibition space to allow immersive viewing of the exhibits from various angles, and eco-friendly finishing materials made from recycled discarded banners are applied to the walls, pillars, and ceiling of the exhibition space. Along with this, Hyundai Motor is also screening videos of future cities transformed by smart mobility solutions on a large display installed on the wall.
Jae-won Shin, Vice President of Hyundai Motor's UAM Division, said, "The UAM aircraft 'S-A1' exhibited this time was designed in collaboration with Uber, and it symbolizes Hyundai Motor Group's strong will to realize urban air mobility for a better life and a better environment for humanity."
Sang-yeop Lee, Executive Vice President in charge of Hyundai Design, stated, "The Hyundai Design Center established a UAM design organization and expanded specialized personnel to research the design area of a new form of personal mobility that has never been explored before," adding, "We are actively participating in open-structured collaboration among related departments."
Earlier this year, Hyundai Motor attracted global visitors' attention by presenting new concept mobility solutions UAM, PBV, and Hub to realize the future mobility vision through CES.
