KAIST AI Research to Use 'Naver Shopping Data'
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Naver and Naver Business Platform (NBP) announced on the 15th that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to train artificial intelligence (AI) specialists.
The signing ceremony was held as a remote video conference using LINE's video meeting function in response to the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Naver will provide the KAIST Department of Computer Science with its current shopping image data and question-and-answer text data to be used for projects and research and development.
KAIST expects that by utilizing the data Naver actually uses in its operations for education, more practical and direct AI technology education will become possible.
In addition, Naver's cloud machine learning development platform, 'NSML (NAVER Smart Machine Learning),' will also be provided. NSML is optimized for AI model development and is actively used by Naver in Clova technology research. NBP plans to provide cloud-based GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) to support stable and efficient NSML operation at KAIST.
Naver Clova AI researchers will also conduct technical lectures directly for KAIST Department of Computer Science students.
Kim Seong-hoon, Chief Leader of Naver Clova AI, said, "The technical know-how of Clova AI researchers, accumulated through direct challenges and experiences in the field, will serve as a foundation for growth for prospective AI experts."
